Dear partners and friends,
And so we have come to the end of what feels like the longest year in recent memory. You have no doubt seen the multiple GIFs and Instagram posts calling for the rapid end to 2020, presumably so we can “get past” this difficult year.
The truth is, the end of 2020 represents less of something to “get past” and more of a call to action. We need to be saying more, doing more, and accomplishing more in 2021 in service of “a more perfect union” for our students than potentially any year in our history. Particularly for students who are members of the global majority, this year’s double pandemic of COVID-19 and racial justice reckoning have wreaked havoc on their health, well-being, safety, and achievement. On behalf of the entire CT3 team, I send you thanks for your enduring commitment to creating better outcomes for the students we all serve.
We’re moving forward on that commitment at CT3, too, as we have just recrafted our core values to align with our anti-racist stance. To wit:
Consider taking these final weeks of 2020 to reignite the burning hope to end racism and discrimination, create new paths to access and opportunity, and renew the commitment to meet the needs of every student we serve, especially those who have been historically marginalized. I also hope you enjoy what will undoubtedly feel like a much-needed break during this holiday season, spending time safely with family and friends to say goodbye to 2020 and to welcome 2021. Finally, I hope you take time for yourself — to recharge your batteries and care for yourself in preparation for the hard work ahead — because friends, in 2021 and beyond, we have work to do!
